Health Insurance Requirements

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION VERY CAREFULLY

During your 10-day Taglit-Birthright Israel trip, you are required to come to Israel with your own health insurance policy that is valid in Israel. This rule comes directly from Taglit-Birthright Israel, and it is strictly enforced. We are required to record your heath insurance provider and policy number as part of the Secondary Application.

If you are not insured on your own or if your North American medical insurance policy does not cover you abroad, then you need to arrange for an insurance policy that covers you for the trip. If you need to obtain an inexpensive policy to fulfill this requirement, the easiest solution is to purchase travelers insurance through a company such as Travel Guard. In addition to medical insurance, the Travel Guard policy automatically provides a number of side benefits:

  • Insurance in case you miss the trip because your connecting flight is delayed or canceled
  • Insurance in case you miss the trip due to a family medical emergency
  • Insurance in case you baggage is lost, damaged, or stolen

Ordering Travel Guard insurance can be done online in a matter of minutes. Just follow these steps:

  1. Start by going to Travel Guard's online form

  2. You will find many Travel Guard policy types listed, but we've tried to make it as easy as possible by offering one policy that does cover pre-existing health conditions. It's called Travel Protection Plan Deluxe, and it's one of the best plansTravel Guard offers.

  3. Once you select a policy type, you will be asked to enter the cost of the trip. Since the trip is free, you can enter exactly $0. However, if you are flying to the departure airport in North America, and you want to insure the cost of your domestic flight, you should enter that cost here. Similarly, if you are extending your stay in Israel or beyond, you can enter those costs as well if you want coverage for that period as well.

  4. The price of the insurance will ultimately depend on your age, state of residency, coverage, and whether you want to insure any extra travel costs. Typically, insurance prices are $30-$50 for your 10-day group trip with us.

  5. The entire process takes no more than ten minutes. It is fast, cheap and easy.
